[edit] PIP
Hope it isnt too much work to tidy this one up.
PIP should work in PC mode but I've never used it.I imagine PC input should be added to the 2nd line of Activating PIP. Nice job on the layout and formatting.
- Thanks! I added PC (VGA) input to the 2nd line and will test it out tonight. Please confirm it says what you expect. --grimholtz 18:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Confirmed that PIP works with the PC (VGA) input on the main screen. --grimholtz 23:57, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I know nothing about PC hookup, although from what I've read VGA is the best setup, but is it the only option or can it be hooked up with DVI or HDMI??
- I have my PC connected via VGA and it works great. VGA is an analog signal. You can hook up your PC via HDMI if you have DVI output on your video card. You just need a DVI-to-HDMI cable. The DVI end plugs into your PC; the HDMI end plugs into the plasma display. Then you have a digital connection to your PC instead of the analog VGA. The display doesn't know this is a PC; you have to switch the input source to HDMI just like as if it were a DVD player connected over HDMI. I tried this DVI-to-HDMI connection but prefer the VGA (PC input) because I can't figure out how to get audio when using the DVI-to-HDMI input. DVI doesn't carry audio, and neither does VGA, but when I switch the display to VGA (PC input) source, the display is smart enough to switch the audio to the 3.5" minijack input. It doesn't switch the audio to the minijack when using DVI-to-HDMI; it expects audio to be piped over the HDMI connector. You can buy video cards with HDMI+audio out, but I don't have one. --grimholtz 19:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Note: on the 5044, PIP can only display the VGA/PC input.
I still havnt found where this is stated. Everything I see indicates it should be the same as the 34 54 64 74 84 and 94s. Benjamin 26Dec. I can't find it either, but we should probably just check the manual online. I thought I remember reading that the PIP didn't have a separate tuner. Doesn't that mean it can't display the tunable inputs while they are being displayed on the large screen? --71.184.105.187 11:59, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
HP-T5044 Main picture Component1,2 HDMI1,2 PC
Sub picture Analog TV broadcasts only
If your main picture is selected from HDMI 1, 2 Component 1, 2 and also VGA/PC inputs and you have air or cable inputs active, you can select an analog channel from either the air or cable input for your sub picture.(PIP)

[edit] Audio
I set up the Audio in PIP just once and since that I only tested the Video portion of it. If you add audio to the PIP, it cuts off the sound in the Main viewing area, requiring a visit back to the PIP Audio setup to restore the sound on the main picture.Benjamin. Wrong on that one--Corrected it. Sound reverts to the main source when PIP is deactivated.
- Added this to the notes section of the Activating PIP Audio. --grimholtz 18:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes. Thanks for adding those. Perhaps those with the "souped up" remotes can program theirs to this for them.
- I have a "souped up" remote -- the Logitech Harmony 890, but haven't figured out how to use it yet :) --grimholtz 19:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] activating PIP
If you start off by changing to HDMI or the other inputs, you are going to get a channel on whatever analog input was last selected. If your last analog input was air, thats what PIP is going to give you, so it would be wise to select the air or cable input and channel before you change input to HDMI.
re: "you cannot watch one TV channel in the PIP window and another on the main screen". If you are watching a TV channel via your STB on HDMI or Component inputs you can also watch any of the analog Air/Cable TV channels in PIP.
If you can hook-up VHS with Component or HDMI, PIP might work, otherwise it wont.
- OK, I added back your comments about switching the analog input FIRST before going to HDMI. Since I don't understand the 2nd and 3rd comments about STB/VHS/component, maybe you could add them directly to the article? --grimholtz 14:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I dont know how to explain that one other than if your HDMI or component input is hooked up to a Stb and you are viewing a TV channel with that configuration, you can have one STB channel as the main and another TV channel from one of the analog inputs as the PIP.
The only VHS outputs I know of--there could be others Im not aware of-- are composite or S-Video, both 480i The S-video and AV inputs on the Sammy will not give you PIP.
