[edit] European Reviews
Samsung has named their models differently for the European market. Aside from different tuners--PAL instead of NTSC for analog, and DVB-T instead of ATSC and QAM for digital, however, the Q97 and C96 do not have USB ports (citation (pdf)) The C91 and Q91 models(Germany, Australia and other countries) have a service USB on the rear panel--the units appear identical in most other regards. Other known differences include Movie Plus and a feature called Smart Frame Plus on these models.
Movie Plus is described as:
Movie Pluscitation Original films are shot at 24, 25, or 30 frames per second, however PAL TVs can display 50 frames per second and need to increase the number of frames to equal what they can display. To do this, Conventional TVs duplicate frames to increase the number of frames accordingly. The repetition of the same frames, however, causes a distinct juddering effect called Motion Judder. With Samsung Movie Plus, it is eliminated by calculating the motion factor of an incoming video signal and interpolating an appropriate new frame. In simple terms, unlike conventional TVs, it does not increase the number of frames by simply repeating them. It increases the number of frames by intelligently estimating the position of the moving object and creating additional new frames based on that estimate. This results in smoother motion and makes fast moving action appear more natural.
Smart Frame Plus is described as:
Smart Frame Pluscitation In the standard 50 Hz PAL system, broadcasted TV shows don’t transmit enough frames for the eye to see a true continuous image. This is why you often experience jerky or blurry images on a PDP TV, especially in fast moving images or captions. So, our Smart Frame Plus adds 25 extra frames per second from the original signal source. Because of this unique technology, moving pictures look more natural and scrolling text is easier to read, as motion blurs are eliminated.
