Which remote control codes do the displays respond to?

TV 0702. A few other Samsung-labeled codes will control power and volume (e.g. TV 0060), but only 0702 repeats the volume command when the button is continually depressed.

When using Dish Network's ViP722 remote, set the remote control to TV 738 in order to repeat the volume command when the button is continually depressed (This has only been verified with model HP-T5064). As mentioned above, several other Samsung codes will work but only transmit the volume command once no matter how long the button is held down.

Remote discrete codes

Format: EFC Code/Hex Code

  • Power Off: 253/46
  • Power On: 001/66
  • Component 1: 190/ 9E
  • Component 2: 061/EE
  • HDMI 1: 081/68

Harmony remotes also support discrete commands though HDMI inputs for those sets with multiple inputs may be incorrectly labeled.

Do Any Current Samsung Plasma TVs Have HDMI 1.3?

The following 2007 Samsung Plasma TVs have HDMI 1.3 and CEC. The accuracy of this is also questionable as HP-T4264 isnt listed.[1]

* HP-T4254
* HP-T5054
* HP-T5064
* HP-T5084
* FP-T5884
* FP-T6374

Which Samsung Plasma TVs Have 1:1 Pixel Mapping (JustScan)?

 The accuracy of this section is disputed.

The following 2007 Samsung Plasma TVs have 1:1 Pixel Mapping through the JustScan function:

  • HP-T5034
  • HP-T5044
  • HP-T5054
  • HP-T5064
  • FP-T5094W
  • HP-T4234
  • HP-T4254
  • HP-T4264
  • FP-T5084
  • FP-T5884
  • FP-T5894W
  • FP-T6374

The JustScan function, which turns on 1:1 Pixel Mapping, works only when you input 1080i DTV signals, 1080i and 1080p signals through the HDMI jack, or 1080i and 1080p signals through the Component jacks. Notably, JustScan is not functional when using the PC/VGA input regardless of the resolution output by the PC's video card. To access the JustScan function, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Menu button on your remote. The Main menu appears.
  2. Press the Enter button to select Picture. The Picture menu appears.
  3. Use the Up or Down arrow button on the remote to select Size, and then press Enter.
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow button on the remote to select JustScan.

Note: You can also press the P.Size button on the remote to cycle through the available picture sizes and select JustScan (although if the selected input source and signal isn't one of the above, the JustScan option won't appear). Important: JustScan is available only on the 2007 Plasma models listed above. It is not available on any Plasma models from any previous year.

How should I clean the display?

  • Use a microfiber cloth (available in camera stores, but the xx54/xx64 TV's come with one) or a clean 100% cotton cloth. No wood based products (that means paper towels, toilet paper, newspaper -- none of it) if in doubt don't use it and don't ask -- find the microfiber cloth or clean 100% cotton cloth. Don't be fooled by "softness". Fine steel wool can feel "soft". It's the fibers that scratch.
  • No chemicals (but see below) -- no chemical soaked "dusting cloth". No Windex, benzene, gasoline, ammonia, Soft Scrub, Lysol, 409 (the WORST), cheap "Window cleaner". If one has to ask about the chemical the answer is "No".
  • First try to clean the screen *dry* -- no chemicals or water. Quick light pressure strokes are better than hard, "scrubbing", strokes -- you just might grind the substance into the screen and scratch it. This method should safely remove fingerprints. If the stain is stubborn:
  • Use a bit of distilled water to dampen the cloth and try the light pressure strokes. If still stubborn:
  • LAST RESORT: A few drops of dishwashing (not dishwasher) solution dissolved in a lot of water to make a weak solution. Try the quick strokes again.
  • Follow-up the dry cleaning with the microfiber or 100% cotton cloth. The anti-refletive coating is like that of a fine camera lens. If the coating is scratched or damaged, that's it, it can't be repaired (camera lens coatings can be replaced but it is *VERY* expensive) forget about it for plasma screens.

How Can I Clean The Fingerprints Off The Screen On My TV? [2]

To clean fingerprints and greasy smudges off your TV screen, first try using a dry, anti-static cloth and rubbing gently.

If that does not work, get a bottle of ScreenClean screen cleaning solution or similar screen cleaner. You should be able to get it at most regular and on-line stores that sell monitors or TVs. Put a small amount of ScreenClean on a clean, soft, dry cloth, and then rub the screen gently.

WARNING: Never use any type of window cleaner, soap, scouring powder, or any cleanser with solvents such as alcohol, benzene, ammonia, or paint thinner. Never use abrasive pads or paper towels. If you do, you can scratch the screen or strip the anti-glare coating off the screen and cause permanent damage.

Cleaning It Right. There are four steps you must take to do the job right:

* Unplug your TV before you begin to eliminate the risk of electric shock.
* If you use ScreenClean or a similar screen cleaner, put or spray
  the cleaner onto the cloth.Never put or spray it directly onto your
  TV screen.
* Wipe as gently as possible. LCD, Plasma, and DLP screens in
  particular are fragile and can be damaged if you press too hard.
* Let the screen dry completely before you plug the TV back in.

Where can I buy spare parts?

You can buy parts online here.

Where can I buy extra remote controls?

The remote control is Samsung part number BN59-00599A (picture of remote control). Remote controls can be purchased at SamsungParts.com, but you can probably get better pricing at ebay. BN59-00599A is used for the following Samsung Plasma display models and perhaps others:

How much lag is present over HDMI?

Using the HDTV Lag Test, one user reports 2-3 frames lag over HDMI [3].

Scaling

Up-converting and down-converting explained: All microdisplays up-convert or down-convert the input signal to its native display resolution. This is also known as Scaling. For example, if your Samsung TV's native resolution is 720p, it will up-convert a 480i or 480p signal to 720p. It will also down-convert a 1080i or 1080p signal to 720p. The less conversions that take place, the cleaner the display. Typically, one sets the output resolution of the source device to match the TV's native resolution, although some report better results allowing the TV to do the conversion.

[4] Samsung HP-T series plasma TVs have a native resolution of 720p. FP-T series plasma TVs have a native resolution of 1080p.

Can I Set My Plasma TV To Display 1080i? [5] You cannot set any Samsung Plasma TVs to display at a resolution other than its native resolution. The 2007 models will accept a 1080i signal, but they will scale the signal to either 720p or 1080p, depending on the model.

How should I set the output of my Cable Set Top Box (STB) or Satellite Receiver? Most use the Pass Thru setting on these sources and let the TV do the scaling. If there is no Pass Thru option, use 720p.

What happens if you send a 1080p signal to a Samsung 720p display? The 720p Samsungs will accept a 1080p signal but will display it scaled to 720p. 1.

Are 480i signals over HDMI supported with the Samsung 720p displays? Not at this time [6]. 480i over component is supported.

Can the 1080p sets display 24fps? Yes. It is unknown how the sets interpret 24fps but the image is reportedly very smooth with no apparent issues.

What does Game Mode do?

[7] Game Mode is available on many current Samsung TVs. When you set a video source (input) to Game mode, your TV electronically bypasses two of the video signal processors in the TV, subsequently cutting down the amount of time the TV needs to process the video input from your game. You may notice a slight difference in the picture, but after you implement Game mode, the audio and video on your game should be synchronized.
